Strengthening Voices in a Democracy

In a globalized era today, the citizens in a democracy need to realize that aggression is not the way to be heard or demand change; it’s rather just a gimmick. In order to demand good governance, ensure effective governments and the need to bring about a change and be heard, people need to take control of their destinies which is possible through perseverance and determination. People are vocal about their preferences more than ever and don’t mind making it known to their administrators. Being heard and to be able to express one’s opinion freely is what distinctly marks a democratic society from the others, which should be cherished and upheld by every member of the society. So, the question now arises that how do voices in a democracy be strengthened and communicated to the decision makers in a way that they are heard and taken seriously? Along with the press and media, a medium that is catching up with one and all is social media through which it is possible to reach out to a lot of people and get their opinions. Besides this, the legislators who represent the people in the legislatures also play a very important role in getting people’s voices heard. It’s a two way process to make a democracy work i.e. people willing to fulfill their duties, act responsibly and participate in the political affairs of the country, and the leaders willing to respect, preserve and promote individual liberty, choices and way of living.
