Technologies that reshape our future

Technologies that reshape our future

By Muhammad Omar Iftikhar

Science and technology have reshaped the world by compelling man to use his brain and quench his thirst of curiosity by finding the unknown, discover the hidden, and explore the unseen potentials of his mind to get all the answers. During man’s journey to use all the resources at hand to make life easier, he stumbled upon the enormous expanse of science and technology and began to ponder on how it can use it for his advantage and make life better. Humans used their logical prowess and reasoning to create gadgets and devices that provided them with ease and a glimpse into the future.

Technology does help humans to provide them with comfort and futuristic technologies, although conceptualized and created in the present, do change our future. A case in point is the Internet or the World Wide Web (WWW). Created by Tim Berners-Lee in the1980s, the Internet changed how we communicate and how industries operate. No one would have thought that a digital invention of the 80s would one day become one of the most used technologies in the world. Moreover, it is because of the Internet that some major businesses of the world, such as Amazon and ebay, are functioning solely online with no tangible presence in the real world. When Tim Berners-Lee conceived about the Internet, it might have been a far-fetched idea to link all computers across the world through servers. At that time, it would have been impossible to achieve, however, that is the beauty of futuristic technologies as they seem unbelievable, but do alter history.

Futuristic technologies do not only refer to technologies that reshape the future because they eventually change our present. Since our present eventually becomes the future, therefore, these technologies create for us a better future. Furthermore, futuristic technologies also refer to such innovations that are ultimately responsible for drastically modifying our future by altering the social, cultural, and economical fabric of our society and that of the world. In 1903, when the Wright Brothers flew their airplane at Kitty Hawk for twelve seconds, they not only became the first to fly an airplane, but they also created the aviation industry. Similarly, in the 1870s when Alexander Graham Bell invented the world’s first telephone, it revolutionized human communication. Where it took weeks or even months to send a telegram across a city, it now takes seconds to talk to someone sitting in another continent. It is because of these futuristic technologies that the human race has evolved, allowing it to broaden its mental horizon.
