How I became a social worker?

One day I got home to leave Mananwala (my residence city) and head to Lahore (I am in Lahore due to my studies). When I reached the bus stop, I found a huge gathering of people crowding the place. It was around 9'O clock in the morning.

There was a shortage of CNG buses due to the problem of load shedding, hence people were waiting for any alternate conveyance to reach their destinations. At that point a bus with the words RAJA engraved on its top came around and called the people headed to destinations like Sheikhupura, Gujranwala and Sialkot. The people hurriedly ran towards the bus to secure their seats. As I wanted to go to Lahore, I felt no need to catch that bus and stayed put where I was.

When the conductor saw that a large number of people rushed towards single bus he knocked the gate and asked the driver to speed up.The driver tried to move the bus slowly so that the people hanging onto the bus and at the foot board could leave it easily.Just then, my eyes fell on the gate of the bus and I was shocked to see three girls getting rushed amid-st the so many people and their condition seemed miserable. Those three girls tried to run and catch the bus but in vain.

When the girls came out from the crowd of people to wait for the arrival of the next bus, I noticed one of them carrying her shoes in her hands. Can you think why she picked the shoes in her hands instead of wearing them? Her shoes had been crushed by the people, and the condition of the other girl was more tragic as her foot came under the tyre of the bus, fortunately she wasn't gravely injured as the bus was slow at that time. When these girls were alone, one of them was weeping upon this humiliation and the other two were trying to calm her down. After 5 to 10 minutes the girls returned home holding their books in their hands.

Dear people it is not a story of India, America or any other country. It is a story of my own city of my beloved country PAKISTAN.
I don't know those girls but I would like to ask would you tolerate this type of treatment to your sister? At least I don't have the patience to put up with this type of humiliation. This is one day's story and I don't know how many girls face this type of humiliation everyday in order get education.
As boys we can go anywhere for any purpose, and in reality we go out for job, education and also for many purposes. If we are poor and get admission in Lahore, Faisalabad or any good city of Pakistan then we can manage by doing a job there.

What about girls?
They can go nowhere because we can’t allow them to go anywhere as the conditions are not favorable for them to stay out of home. If the girls are not allowed to go out of city and there are no institutes for them in their own city then tell me how they can be educated.

These and a number of other problems were in my mind when I started working on the education issue. After this particular incident, I just think about my sisters and I decided to save their respect and work for their education.I tried my best to change the condition but I was not able to being about a change on my own because I had no support from any authority. At that time I decided to join a platform where I could work for my own people.

I joined CDS and started work to change the condition of Mananwala first and then move onto the whole country. Today we have solved a number of issues of students regarding their education and career. We are offering a number of services to all the students without any discrimination and we are successful in having our purpose achieved. We can get nothing by merely criticizing political parties or governments. We must do our own bit too, at least what is in our capacity. This is real work. Nothing in this world is impossible, just the zeal and enthusiasm to do something is needed. Try to change the world on your own. Don’t wait for someone to come and help you. If we are in an authoritative position, then we should do something for our people. These are our people and we have to help them. So, be positive and start by helping yourself first.
